On various occasions, 13 of the 18 SLI debaters that participated in intercollegiate competition proved. themselves to be superior to any of the other competing contestants. The SLI speakers excelled. as follows:
The Southwesterners won 112 speech contests and placed second in 12 others.
The 18 SLI varsity debaters won six tournament championships and three second places by winning 82 debates (72 per cent of all that they entered). Two SLI teams tied :for the championship in senior women's debate on four different occasions. One SLI team won chamPionships in junior debate at two tournaments, and other SLI teams placed second in debate at three tournaments.
