CROWLEY, La. — Approval of a $310.991.34 operating budget for 1967, and purchase of a two - way radio communications system for use by t h e parish Civil Defense unit occupied the Acadia Parish Police Jury at its regular December meeting held Tuesday morning at the Police Jury rooms in the Court House.
With Aaron Cart presiding, the jurors heard M. E. Kirk, secretary - treasurer, present details of the budget for t h e coming year. After discussion, the budget was adopted without changes.
Motorola Company was awarded the contract for furnishing a 6-unit mobile two -way radio system, base station,
console and other equipment according to Police Jury specifications, for the Acadia

Civil Defense Unit. Bid of Motorola was $11,148.72. Other bid submitted came from General Electric, the cost being $12,421.99.
Proposals were also read for maintenance of the new system, bid of General Electric. being $70.30 per month, while that of Motorola was $74.30. General Electric's low bid was accepted, with service to be provided by Ralph Gonthier of Crowley.
Twelve civics students from Crowley High School, accompanied by Coach Benny Brown, were guests of the Police Jury for a practical lesson in civics. They were welcomed by President Cart and members of the parish body.
City Judge Edmund Reggie Of Grow1U---also appeared before the jurors and was given an increase of $150 in his salary as a result of action taken by the. Louisiana Legislature in its last regular session. This increse will be paid from court costs funds, at no expense to the police jury.
Renewal tax elections f o r–road maintenance in Ward 1, Ward 5, and in Ward 4, sub-district 7 were set by resolution of the jurors for February 13, with voting between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. These are not new taxes but renewals of present maintenance levies. In Ward 1. the renewal tax is 3
