Safety Council Makes
First Progress Report
CROWLEY, La.—The Crowley Chamber f Conerce sponsored Crowl Are ,Safety Council Executive Committee met in the Chamber of Commerce office at 5:00 p.m. Monday with President Dick Leeper presiding.
Present at this meeting were: Mary June Miles, A. Byron Core, Chamber of Commerce President Noble Chambers, Budget Commit tee Chairman Donald Jones and Cliff Meek.
The financial report showed that the estimated cost of setting up the Crowley City Court Driver Improvement School was within the $600 previously budgeted for this project. The school is well underway to being very successful and useful according to Judge.__EALtuuln

After much discussion, Core summarized the remarks concerning organizational structure, funds, and participation in the Council.
Core slated, "It is felt (1) that we must implement a strong organizational structure with designation of divisions a n d appropriate committees. To form these committees will (a) afford broader participation from the citizenry (b) afford formation of working committees. Much research will be necessary in order to discover local needs in the field of safety, therefore I think our decision to hire a part time secretary to work under our manager will expedite this organizational endeavor (2) it is my opinion that we do not desire to use the word member as regards the Council, but rather to use the word sponsor We can solicit our funds from sponsors and thus allow our general populace to participate in this program without the burden of dues in cases where it would be burdensome (3) participation, cooperation and results are our goals. Once the
manager and others working with him get the necessary research done we shall go forth
with a full and productive program. Our general idea is to present a comprehensive plan to the board at the January
meeting".
The committee voted runanimously- to remit a letth to Chief Maxie Barousse and his men complimenting them on the rigid enforcement of exist-
