CROWLEY, La. — Eight of the 20 persons sentenced on traffic violations in Crowley Wednesday by Judge Edmund M. Reggie were additionally sentenced to attend the newly established Driver Improvement School.
Failure to attend the school will place the violator in contempt of the Crowley City Court and a mandatory jail sentence will follow.
The violators will attencl__a two - hour session each Tuesday night for three weeks in Room 13 of the Crowley High School where Bobby Stringer will give the instructions and report weekly to Judge Reggie.
The eight drawing sentences as well as the driver improvement instruction were Lloyd J. Guidry, reckless operation of a motor vehicle; Ivory J. Mouton and Claby Carmouche, driving while intoxicated; and Edward Babin, Dwight L. Perry, Jerry J. Myers, and Rodney L. Link.
Two of the 42 cases of the docket prepared by the Crowley Police Department went to trial. Joseph I. Bellard was f ound guilty of disturbing the peace by fighting and was fined $15 and costs or 10 days in jail. In the second case Weston Winn was found not guilty on a similar charge.
Two men appeared in court for t h e second time in two weeks and were ordered to serve a 10-day jail sentence at hard labor. They were Joseph Brown, DP by fighting, a n d Preston Winn, Jr., DP by loud and insulting language. Frank Wilson also received a 10 - day jail sentence for DP by being intoxicated.
Forfeiting bonds for disturbing the peace by being intoxicated were Calvin Wilson, Willie Mollett, Eddie Rojas, Evans Guidry, and Paul Burns.
Forfeiting bonds for DP by alarming the public were Lawrence Winford, Clarence Thomas on two counts, John Wilson, Francis Vallery, and William Mack.
