ations should be in keeping with the home's architecture and doorway lighting must be functional so that the door can still be used. Doors should be framed and not simply adorned with a wreath.
The colors of the season will be considered and weatherproof materials should be used. Decorations should be in good taste and should strive for some surprise effect. The mechanics of lighting should be concealed and the house should not be outlined with lights except for a definite purpose. Greenery Should be used with lighting to softentheharsh effects which are sometimes achieved.
Judging of the Christmas Lighting Contest will be held Monday evening, according to Mrs. Ned Wilson, president of the Crowley Garden Club, which is sponsoring the event.
Mrs. Edmund Reggie, chairman of the Crowley Garden Club Committee, reminded all Crowley residents who wish to enter their homes in the contest to do so immediately, since the deadline is Saturday, Dec. 17.
Anyone desiring to enter may contact Mrs. Ernest Petitjean, Mrs.. William Broadhurst, Mrs. Jo Cart or any other member of the Garden Club. Residents on the outskirts of town are also welcome to enter.
Judging will be in residential and non-residential categories, further sub-divided into religious and traditional or other Yule themes. A panel of out-of-town judges will conduct the judging. Yard plaques will be presented this year to the winners.
Five local firms and institutions have donated a total of $300 in prize money. Cleco gave $ 100 for the contest and $50 each was contributed by Louisiana Bank & Trust Co., First National Bank, Bank of Commerce & Trust Co. and Acadia Savings and Loan Association.
Four first-place prizes of $35 each will be awarded, four second place awards of $15 each
will be given and there will be four third-place presentations of $10 each.
The Garden Club is sponsoring a special effort to beautify the city for the holiday season by encouraging all public groups and business firms to decorate their buildings and windows.Students from the city's three high schools have also helped to decorate some of the empty downtown windows.
Several factors will enter into the judging of all decorations. Decorations must have an overall theme, and not mix religious and other Yule themes. Simplicity will be stressed in the judging as will be principles of good design, which include balance, proportion and scale.
Size will also be considered and entrants should keep in mind that their decorations will be viewed from a distance. Decor-
