CROWLEY, La. —A panel of AK judges worked from 5:30 p.m. until midnight last night to evaluate the many entries in the 1966 Christmas Decorating Contest sponsored by the Crowley Garden Club.
Serving as judges were Mr. and Mrs. William M. Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Osborne and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Molett, all from Lafayette. The largest number of entries ever recorded consumed many hours of careful work on t he part of the judges, who carefully studied each home or
building entered, using a detailed point system.
Cash awards of $35 for first placd, $15 for second place and $10 for third place were delivered to the winners this morning, as well as special y a rd markers for all winners a n d honorable mention awards, so that area folks may readily spot the winning entries as they drive around Crowley during the holidays. The judges commented on the unified effort to decorate the city this year and the exceptional number of places that were brightly decorated, even though not registered for competition.
Winners were announced as follows:
Non-Residential entries Religious Theme—first place, 5th grade windows at N. Crowley Elementary; second place, Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church; and third place, the Acadia Parish Courthouse, Other Yule Themes — firSt place, Sis and Walt's children shop; second place, Central Fire Station: third place. Drive third place, Mrs. Josephine Gant at 112 Western Ave.; and honorable mention awards to B.C. Delahoussaye at 1206 N. Ave. J., Cullise Abshire at 537 E. Oak, Mrs. P.W. Miguel of Apt. 6, Carver Village. and Adele Guidry on W. Northern at 1st St.
A special citation was issued to t h e residence of Wayne Kerr, with the following statement from the judges and Mrs. Edmund Reggie, chairman of the contest:
