Edmund Reggie, longtime confidant of Gov. Edwin Edwards and the fattier-in-law of Sen. Edward Kennedy, was suspended Monday as a member of the U.S. Supreme Court bar — meaning he would not be allowed to argue cases before the court. -
Reggie said in a brief telephone interview from his Crowley. office that the order made public Monday was "nothing new" and that he expects to be reinstated soon "as a matter or course."
Reggie was convicted in 1992 of misapplying funds of Acadia Savings & Loan of Crowley, a thrift he founded in 1959. In 1993, he pleaded no contest to another misapplication charge.
The former Crowley city judge served 120 days of- home detention and paid $30,000 in fines. Ile was suspended from practicing law for a year by the state Supreme Court —a suspension that ended late in 199-1.
