Wednesday At Civic Center
Dr. William Boyd of Lake Charles will be the guest speaker at the Affirmative Action Forum on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center. The public is invited to attend, according to DeRidder Jaycees, the sponsors of the Forum.
Four DeRidder men are serving on the Democratic affirmative action committee for the seventh congressional district along with some 20 people from five Southwest Louisiana parishes.
Dr. Boyd, 7th District affirmative action co-chairman, said the committee members will encourage participation on the part of all elements of the Democratic party.
The principal goal of the affirmative action committee is to encourage new voters and those no longer registered to register as Democrats.
The committee, working with the Democratic Party, will work toward assuring the Louisiana delegation to the national convention refelects a representative balance of Democratic voters including minorities, native Americans, women, senior citizens and youth.
The DeRidder men who were named to the committee are Sam Jones, Ed Michael Reggie, Willie Vincent and Dr. J.E. Stephenson.
Sam Jones also serves as a delegate to the State Democratic Convention.
