On Marijuana Charge
agreement with the court to provide for the support of 10 four children.
Two non-support cases were nolle prossed in court and another was reported as withdrawn.
Norris L. Carter of Lake Charles, Henry Navarre of Crowley, and Anthony Rutledge of Lafayette all entered guilty pleas to driving while intoxicated and each was sentenced to $15 and costs or 30 days. Each was told that under a new state law that their driver license would be revoked. Carter, who is 80 years old, was advised by the judge to sell his automobile and not drive anymore. Rutledge told the judge he had quit driving and had already sold his car when the judge started to send him to the Driver Improvement School.
Russell H. McDathe of Rt. 1, Morse, entered a guilty plea to reckless driving and was fined $35 and costs or 20 days plus four sessions at the Driver Improvement School. Frederick J. Breaux of New Iberia pleaded guilty to failure to yield and was fined $35 and costs or 10 days.
John Earl Boutte of Lake Charles failed to appear in court to answer a charge of driving while intoxicated. He was or
dered arrested and to post a $1,000 bond.
A total of 19 bonds were ordered forfeited in minor traffic violation cases.
CROWLEY, La.—Possession of marijuana and shoplifting cost a 23-year-old Seattle, Wash., professional deep water diver six months in the parish prison Wednesday afternoon in the Crowley City Court.
Phillip Rosenbaum entered a plea of guilty to both counts through legal counsel, who said the man possessed no prio criminal record. The longhaired, moustached Rosenbaum was arrested en route to Texas from New Orleans where he said he spent the last three months attempting to secure employment as a diver and doing odd jobs as a baker. Upon questioning by Judge Edmund M. Reggie, Rosenbaum admitted to the smoking of marijuana for the past four years. He said he was en route to meet his wife of one year when arrested.
Mrs. Charlene E. Allen of Crowley entered pleas of guilty to four counts of theft by check on two Crowley stores. She was sentenced to 21 days in jail on each count, the terms to run consecutively, but because of extenuating circumstances was allowed until next Wednesday to make restitution and have the jail sentences suspended. The four checks came to a total of $19.38.
James Morris and Robert James Isadore, both 17, entered guilty pleas to the theft of whiskey and each was sentenced to 21 days in jail.
