career in 1915 with the Akron Beacon-Journal, while he was attending Tallmadge (Ohio) High School, remaining with the newspaper during his years at Kent State. At the same time, Haney worked for the Associated Press.
In December, 1949, he joined the Erie (Pa.) Times. Then, following two years with theU. S. Navy, he became a reporter for the Memphis Commercial-Appeal, then was named assistant city editor of the Washington Evening Star in 1954.
Haney joined NASA inDecember, 1958. His duties included all phases of public relations activity for the then newly-instituted civilian space program.
He became NASA's news director in 1960, working primarily on the formulation of public information policy on Project Mercury.
In September, 1962, Haney was assigned to a newly-createdpost of Public Affairs Officer, remaining there until May, 1969. In that position, he was respon-

OUT-GOING PRESIDENT - A resident of Crowley for the past nine years, Leon K. Poche will this year retire as President of the Greater Crowley Chamber of Commerce, effective at the banquet at which time a new president will be installed. He will continue to serve as - immediate past president. He is a senior partner in the firm of Moody, Broussard, Poche and Guidry. Poche has been active in civic and community work, as past president of the Kiwanis Club, Kiwanian of the Year in 1959 and 1968; past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, and was recently named by Gov. McKeithen to the State Board of Certified Public Accountants. He is a member of the State Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants and is presently serving on the Society's Taxation Committee and serves as chairman of the ethics Committee; past president of the Lafayette Chapter of the Society of Louisiana's Certified Public Accountants and a member of the American institute, of Certified Public Accountants. He was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, honorary accounting fraternity; Delta Sigma Phi, honorary commerce fraternity; and past president of Phi Kappa Theta Social Fraternity. Poche is marriedto the former Dolores Breaux of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and they have two, sons, Leon K. Poche, Jr. and Timothy James Poche.
