Acadia Police Jury Takes'
No Stand On Amendments
Says Matter
Should Be k
Left To Voters
CROWLEY, La. — the Acadia Parish Police Jury today refused to take a stand on the calling of ' a constitutional convention in February and the repeal of the two-thirds tax vote amendment and in formal fashion said, "such matters in, the opinion of the jurors should be left up to the voters."
The Jury statement added, "For the Jury to announce a stand on these issues would not be in the best interests of the parish."
The statement was made in answer to a request by W. A. Breedlove, secretary of the Louisiana Police Jury Association, that the Acadia Jury make known Its opinion on the two issues that will go before the electorate in November.

District board, today requested the Police Jury to contact the Louisiana Department of Public Works and ask them to make a temporary survey of Bayou Wikoff and give the drainage board an opinion on the present plan of work of the district.
Venable said bids have already been received on proposed work in Bayou Wikoff, but hafe not been let. The board, he said, will await an opinion from a DPW engineer.
Stamm-Raymond, Inc., Rayne, was low and successful bidder in the amount of $1,075 to provide a half-ton pickup truck for the parish highway force. Traded in was a 1950 Dodge pickup. Others bidding were Jerry Ashley Cheverolet, $1, 417; Bossley Auto Sales and Service, $1,265; E C. Fremaux and; Son of Rayne, $1261.741 and Cleve-! land Motors; $1,290.
A resolution requesting a gas line( by Central Louisiana Electric Co. across the northeast corner of the parish near Church Point was approved a resolution by the Texas, Oil Co. requesting Police Jury per-, mission to drill a well in the northeast section of the Bosco field was approved.
A report submitted on the recent examinations of the police jury accounts and records for the year ending on Dec. 31, 1955, showed a general fund surplus of $159,682.58. The report pointed out that this surplus is compared to a figure of $152,571.95 shown at the end of 1954.
Of the surplus funds, $59,620 are invested in United States savings bonds, Series E, of which $50,000 worth matured in 1954 and 1955. It was advised in the report- that these bonds should be presented for redemption, since they are no longer drawing interest, and the proceeds be re-invested in interest bearing securities.
The report, signed by Junius H. Payne, Jr., superintendent of public funds, cited the police jury accounts and records as "being maintained in an efficient and neat manner," and that courtesies extended during the examination "were appreciated."
A motion to raise the salaries of the four courthouse janitors $10 per month was approved.
